Can I buy a GIC online if I don’t have a National Bank investment account?

Yes, you can make a request to open an account when you purchase a GIC. 

You must choose in which type of account you wish to purchase a GIC (TFSA, RRSP, FHSA or non-registered account). 
 

From the National Bank app: 

  1. Sign in to the National Bank app.
  2. Click Menu at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click Products and services, then click Investment account.
  4. Click Open an investment account, then click Select under Guaranteed investment return
  5. Choose the type of account you want to open (RRSP, TFSA, FHSA, or non-registered). 
  6. Click Select under GIC and follow the steps.
     

From the web version of your online bank:

  1. Sign in to your online bank.  
  2. Click Products and services in the left menu, then expand the Saving and investments section.  
  3. Click Select under Guaranteed investment return.
  4. Under Open an investment account online, click Start an application
  5. Choose the type of account you want to open (RRSP, TFSA, FHSA, or non-registered). 
  6. Click Select under GIC and follow the steps.
